Millions of Houston residents were left without power after Hurricane Beryl hit the area on Monday, as seen in satellite images from NASA showing darkened suburbs and dimmed city lights. The storm made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane near Matagorda, causing widespread blackouts in Harris County.

CenterPoint Energy reported a peak of 2.26 million customers without power in Houston, with about 1.7 million still in the dark on Tuesday morning. The utility company mobilized thousands of personnel to restore power, with an estimate that 1 million customers might have power back by Wednesday evening, leaving many residents to cope with the aftermath of the storm's impact for days to come.
